Beaken of Hope was an idea that has been growing in my heart for several years. I have seen needs and problems that have no solution. There are gaps in our network and we would like to fill those gaps, or at least try. We send missionaries to other parts of the country or the world, which is wonderful, but we have people in need in our own backyard. Our goal is to provide a way for people to participate in not-so-random acts of kindness. We want to help the ‘Good Samaritan’ find a neighbor to help.
Our name was chosen because I love the symbolism of a lighthouse to guide our way through this life. Jesus is the Light that guides us if we just look to Him. His Light provides Hope in the darkness. I know, Beaken is spelled the wrong way. We used this spelling to honor the memory of my mother (Janet Beaken, 1933-2009) and sister (Michelle Beaken, 1957-2018), whose unmet needs were the first to awaken the desire to help others in this way.

Examples of People We Have Helped
A struggling family has a sudden large car repair bill. We helped to keep this family moving and working.
We helped a young family with twin babies purchase special formula that they required.
A young mother with 2 year old twins, suddenly needed an emergency surgery, with another surgery needed within a month or two. We helped her friend with expenses when she stepped up to care for the boys.
